SAVING GLOUCESTERSHIRE’S AVIATION HERITAGE

Jet Age Museum exists to save and commemorate Gloucestershire’s outstanding aviation heritage.

For the past 20 years Jet Age has saved for posterity historic aircraft, other artefacts, documents and photographs. The collection commemorates in particular the work and the people of the Gloster, Smiths and Dowty companies, as well as many other aspects of the county’s aviation history. We have a significant archive of Gloster Aircraft Company documents and images and also manage the nationally-important Russell Adams Collection of historic aviation photographs and film.

Jet Age Museum is currently working on a joint project with Brockworth Enterprise School near Gloucester for a permanent home on the school site. The school will be the lead school in the area for the new Engineering Diploma, to be introduced in 2008, and the new museum will be fully integrated with the school curriculum.

Jet Age became homeless at the end of 2000 when our site was redeveloped and we had to close to the public. We were turned down by the Heritage Lottery Fund and unable to proceed with plans for a museum at Gloucestershire Airport. Although closed to visitors we have kept alive thanks to our fundraising activities, donations and the subscriptions of our 200 or so members. We are an all-volunteer organisation, a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. Members bring to us a wide range of skills and experience, from aircraft restoration, visitor services and historical research and publications to financial, local government and planning expertise.

We hope you enjoy your visit to the site - come back regularly to check what's new!
